"Oreana Gatekeeper" Great Horned Owl
"Philippine grebe" Little grebe
The Little grebe is the smallest of the grebe family, his range is all of Europe, Asia, and Africa. My connection comes from my military service with U.S. Navy Seabees and a tour of duty in the Philippine Islands. I spent part of 1957, and 1958 just above Subic Bay at Cubi Point with MCB-11. I was not a bird watcher at the time, so I don't know if I got to see this bird or not.

"Hagerman Observer"
American Bald Eagle
This carving of a American Bald Eagle is about 1/4 or less life size. On February 6, 2008, my wife and I took a drive to the Hagerman valley to get away from the cold weather here at home. We had the opportunity to watch a American Bald Eagle hunt from a tree next to the Snake River, the tree he was in, was just yards from our car, we got to watch him for about 15 minutes until he went fishing, such a large, graceful bird!

"Sophie of Austria" & "Archduke Franz"
Great Crested Grebes
This is my first effort in doing a pair of Great Crested Grebes, the names for this pair came from the study skins I used as reference. The study skin was collected in 1930 in Austria, when Archduke Franz was in power. His wife was Sophie.
I also have a photo album of this pair that will be given to the collector of the pair.
The carvings are #1108 & 1109, and completed on November 14, 2013 and December 20, 2013.

"Snipe Hunting" Wilson's Snipe
The inspiration for this carving came from a trip that my wife Judy and I took to Renolds Creek in Owyhee county on June 12, 2005. On one road we spotted over a dozen Snipe, all of them were on top of fence post. I was reminded of this again this spring when Judy and our grand sons, Jake and Declan were in Jordan Valley, Oregon and spotted a Wilson's Snipe on a fence post.

The Bullbat Common Nighthawk
The inspriation for this carving goes back to when we lived in Boise's old North end. On the hot summer evenings on Harrison Boulevard the Common Nighthawks would be everywhere, hunting flying insects. You could always tell them by the white windows in there wings. They have records of this little bird catching over 500 mosquitoes in one nights hunting.
