The National Headquarters of the
Deer Flat Wildfowl Art Studio
This is an inside look at the office in my home, all of the walls are filled with awards, copies of books and articles that have been written about my carvings and two show cases with OLD carvings that I have saved through the years. If you are ever in the area, be sure to give me a call and see both the office and studio.

The spring of the year, looking East.
This is what you see from our home. I built the building in 1995; it was my third effort to design my dream studio. The studio is just three miles from the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge and Lake Lowell.
The North side of the building.
This shows the North side of the studio, six windows that give me a lot of natural light.
The view from the studio.
This is what I see when I am doing the finish carving and painting. There are always lots of wild birds in our back yard, to date I have recorded 86 species. It is always a treat to spot a new species of bird in our feeders.
Entering into the "clean room".
The outside door is on the right side of this photo, the case has some of my taxidermy, the door to the second room, and my storage cabinet that is used for prints and artwork that I have collected through the years.
The library, over 300 reference books.
Next to the print storage cabinet are eight drawers of 4X6 and 5X7 reference photographs that I have taken through the years. I have switched over to digital photo records now so I only print the photos that will do me the most good. My library contains carving books, bird reference, artist books, and magazines that deal with birds and bird carvings.
The painting station.
The North East corner of the studio is the painting station, I have hundreds of ready mixed colors that I have saved thought the years, and three airbrushes that are all ready to use at any time. Yes, I have a TV in the studio, I listen to a lot of old movies, and when football is being played, I watch the replays.
The carving station.
The North West corner of the studio in the carving station, I have my wood burner, Fordom, NSK, and block sander set up in the center island. The mobile island next to the chair has the reference photos of the bird I am working on under glass, I move this island over to the painting station so my reference is always at hand.
Entry into the "dirty room".
On the west end of the "dirty room" is my storage cabinet for my small power tools. I use the top for sealing off my carvings and I have a small jig saw mounted there. Next is my air compressor, I have an air line run through the walls to the paint station in the other room. Next is my bird seed storage and my table saw.
Wood storage.
On the right side of this photograph is my wood storage, I have tupelo, jelutong, and some bass wood that I have purchased in the past so it is well aged. Above the wood are storage cabinets for study skins, wood cut outs, and sodering supplys. Next to the wood storage is my welder, I use it for making the feet and some mounts. In the back on the right is the shelf that I use to photograph my carvings, to the left of that is storage for c clamps and saw blades then my shop vacuum and step ladder.
The power wall.
The power wall starts on the East end of the room with a vacuum system for the power tools, the band saw, drill press, 6" disk grinder, and a 6" by 48" belt sander.
